Next steps for the UK children’s content market: investment, international competitiveness and policy priorities

This Westminster Media Forum seminar will consider industry and policy priorities for supporting the long-term growth of the UK children’s content sector.  Director of BBC Children's and BBC North, Alice Webb will be the Guest of Honour.

It follows the amendment to the Digital Economy Act, which gives Ofcom powers to impose quotas on PSBs to increase their provision of original children’s content, and comes as the final shape of the £60 million contestable fund is negotiated.

Delegates will examine strategies for extending the reach and quality of PSB children’s content across platforms, and will assess alternative forms of public support.

Attendees will also discuss latest developments in private investment - including new approaches to funding, rights management and merchandising - and options for mitigating the impact of increased regulatory pressure on marketing.

Further sessions consider the UK sector’s international positioning going forward - looking at the commercial, creative and policy issues, as well as priorities for increasing the effectiveness of global rights exploitation, and attracting foreign investment and skills into the industry as the UK prepares to leave the European Union.
