Brexit and the UK Film and Television Industry - Investment, Skills and Policy Frameworks

Pact Chief Executive John McVay is one of the Guests of Honour at this Westminster Media Forum event taking place in anticipation of the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union. This seminar will set out the key priorities and unique challenges for the UK film and TV production industry.

It takes place as final revisions to the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) are being negotiated in European Parliament, including the extension of European quota requirements for on demand providers and the continuation of the Country of Origin Principle, as well as new proposals to create a fairer market place for online content by modernising EU copyright rules.

Planned sessions consider how policymakers, working alongside industry, can create the conditions necessary to mitigate negative consequences of Brexit - looking at sustaining existing relationships with EU member states, supporting the formation of new global working alliances, and the development of domestic media policy in the context of EU-level reforms.

Further sessions will look beyond Brexit to assess the new opportunities for UK TV and film in international markets, particularly focusing on forming new trade agreements, encouraging greater international investment and exchange of ideas, and attracting the best talent from overseas.
