Watch your way through January

The full return of in-person events may have had to take a back seat for a little while longer, but in the meantime we've got you covered with hundreds of recordings which you can work your way through on the Pact Growth Accelerator.

Here are a few highlights to get you started...

Make the most of what you’ve got

As our recently released TV Exports Report showed, UK producers were able to use their back catalogues to boost sales during the height of the pandemic. But pandemic or not, secondary rights exploitation and efficient content library management are important elements for running a successful and sustainable indie business today. Our Monetising Your IP case study with Imagen and Banijay Group explored some of the new tools and technology available to producers to make the process more manageable.

Figuring Out Formats

Creating a successful returning format is a key goal for many indies, but what are the crucial considerations when developing and producing a format? In our Creating & Developing a Format session back in June 2021 we heard from the RDF West team behind Eat Well for Less?. From how they got the commission away through to refining the idea to make it returnable, hear how they did it and download the key takeaways in a Top Tips sheet that accompanies the recording.

On Brand

With a drop in traditional ad spend and broadcasters facing greater funding gaps, brand funding programming has really taken off in recent years. But when we hosted our Deep Dive into Brand Funded Programming with K7 Media's Clare Thompson and Victoria de Kerdel last year, half of attendees had never made brand funded programming before. This is a great session for those completely new to the area, as well as a helpful update for those with some experience looking for further insights and to explore successful case studies.

The truth about factual financing

The bar for factual content has got higher in recent years thanks to a string of runaway hits, which is great for audiences and exciting for creatives. But it also means budgets have increased and financing has become more complex. Increasingly, international collaboration has become a crucial mechanism for getting things made. In this session from our Global Co-Production Symposium in the summer, hear from producers based in Finland, Brazil, France, Turkey and the UK about working internationally in the factual arena.

IMDb for Inspiration

If there’s any time of year we need a bit of inspiration, it’s during the long, dark days of January. So may we present to you our talk with Col Needham, the charismatic and down to earth Founder and CEO of the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the world’s most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. Col shares his story of how a love for film and TV combined with his interest in technology in the 80s and led him to launch IMDb in 1990. He goes on to explain how he grew the business from there – adapting to the rapid changes in technology over the following decades in order to remain relevant.

We challenge anyone not to be inspired (and amused) by Col’s talk.
