Pact backing production management rates campaign

An open letter addressed to all of the major UK and international broadcasters and their subsidiaries is calling for a change in the attitude towards production management departments in unscripted TV programme making.

Written on behalf of Production Secretaries, Production Coordinators, Junior Production Managers, Production Managers, Line Producers, Production Executives and Heads of Production in the UK television industry, the letter outlines key issues and calls for additional funding 'which is both fair and transparent, to allow for proper production support.'

The open letter can be read in full here.

Pact is backing the campaign, alongside other industry bodies. Our Deputy CEO and Director of Business Affairs, Max Rumney commented:

"Pact members share the concerns of the production management departments and are concerned not only about rates of pay set in budgets, but also about the training of and retention of talented people in these crucial and demanding roles.

"Frequently, Pact members see the funding of these roles negotiated down (so that these staff must be frequently deployed across multiple productions) and the responsibilities increased by Broadcasters who want compliance of productions with additional HR, environmental and regulatory commitments but without additional funding for such important work."

The campaign is asking all freelancers, staff, independent production companies and TV businesses to pledge their support by signing the letter via this Google Form
