In 1995, he co-founded Afanti Media (formerly Avanti Media), and as Chief Executive Officer, he has built one of the longest-standing and most successful TV production companies in Wales, with the company celebrating its 25th year in broadcasting in 2022.  

Afanti employs 40 staff and has extensive in-house production and outside broadcast facilities. With offices in Cardiff and Manchester, Afanti is widely-respected for delivering successful returnable shows and formats, documentaries, large scale outside broadcasts, entertainment and music events for national and international broadcasters. Emyr has led a number of high-profile network commissions such as ‘Songs of Praise’ for the BBC and is also behind new formats such as ‘Showtime’ and “Life Drawing Live!’ and ‘Inside Classical’ for the BBC, and ‘The Perfect Pitch’ for Channel 4. Beyond his network commissions, Emyr still takes immense pride in building on Afanti’s content rich portfolio of Welsh programming with S4C and BBC Wales and is Deputy Chair of the Welsh Producer’s Alliance TAC.

In 2022 Emyr founded the Wales Screen Summit held in Cardiff, supported by Creative Wales, BBC, Channel 4, S4C, Channel 5 and Netflix and attended by over 230 delegates, which is set to return in early May 2023.
