How Policies and Guidelines Can Create Transformation
Policies form the backbone of a production – both at company level and within the individual special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up for each project. This resource outlines the types of policies that may be needed, with many of these templates often provided by the broadcaster or production company.
In reality, many crew members rarely read policies in full – often due to their length, language or perceived lack of relevance. One solution is to complement formal policies with a short best practice guide: a simple two-pager that summarises key principles and gives all crew (including dailies) a clear sense of the culture being created.
Distributing these documents as part of the onboarding process, ideally within contracts, sets the tone early. And how they’re presented matters. If shared as just another attachment they’ll likely be overlooked. But if framed as an invitation to join a thoughtful, inclusive production culture, they’re far more likely to engage and inspire.
The policies listed throughout this resource are broad and often link to standard templates. Where used, each production should tailor them in collaboration with their broadcaster, production company and producing team.
