Amendments to Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa Applications
Tier 1 entry is a route for exceptionally talented people to live and work in the UK. There is a limit of 1000 entrants per year in total, of which Arts Council England have 300 places to offer those with an international reputation for their work in the arts or entertainment sector. Pact is responsible for reviewing Tier 1 applicants and endorsing the criteria on behalf of the Film, TV, Animation, Post Production and Visual Effects industry.
The scheme is still in its pilot phase and is continuously monitored. To date, individuals who have been granted visas through the scheme include:
. Bafta Award-winning directors;
. Oscar Award-winning writers;
. Emmy Award-winning Visual Effects Supervisors, Documentary Producers and Directors;
. Camera D’Or Award-winning screenwriters.
On 6th November 2014, amendments to the current criteria relating to Tier 1 applications come in to force.
The key changes are as follows:
·The criteria for Film, TV, Animation, Post-production and Visual Effects applicants has become more flexible in recognition of the growing number of international awards given in recognition of excellence particularly in markets such as the US, Australasia, Africa, China, Brazil.
·The Notable Industry Recognition Awards list now includes a greater number of awards.
·If you have won at least two awards from the list there is no longer a time restriction.
·If you have a combination of awards and nominations, the time restriction is still 5 years but you now need only to have won one and been nominated for one (rather than two) awards.
·If you have only received nominations, it must have been within the last 3 years (rather than 5)
· The Major Awards category remains the same. Candidates must have:
- Received a nomination for an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe or Emmy Award within the last five years from the year of application. You are not eligible to apply outside the five-year time frame if you only received a nomination; or
- Won an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe or Emmy Award. There is no time limitation to this criteria.
