Visas & Permits
Visas & Work Permits
Entry is subject to regulations from country of origin. Western passport holders can enter visa-free for stays of up to a year. Some passport holders that require visas are eligible for the e-Visa program.
No special work visas are required.
Please contact a local embassy, consulate or representative for more information. Alternatively, there are specialist companies that provide visa and immigration support to the media industry, and may be able to assist.
Film Location Permits
In Georgia, most public locations are possible to film in.
Tbilisi doesn’t require any citywide permit for b-roll filming. More complicated shoots requiring street closures or large set-ups can usually be permitted within a couple of days.
Permits for filming ancient churches and monasteries are possible, but require more lead time.
Customs
For productions looking to bring in film equipment, Georgia is not an ATA carnet country.
Georgia has all the standard camera, grip and lighting equipment. More specialised gear can be easily brought in from abroad. Bringing equipment into Georgia is a quick and easy process.
When to Film
When to Film
Georgia generally has hot summers and mild winters, with snow common in mountain areas. The semi-arid southeast and mountain regions have distinct microclimates.
Weather-wise, the best months are May, June and September, with long shooting days and none of the excessive heat and humidity of July and August.
Georgian Orthodox Christianity is the main religion, so those holidays are observed.
Public Holidays
Public holidays may affect timing, availability and costs. See here for public holiday dates in Georgia.
Costs & VAT
Georgian locations, local talent and supporting crew are inexpensive. Depending on the shoot, some specialised gear and crew may need to be brought in from abroad.
The standard VAT rate in Georgia, at the time of writing, is set at 18%.
