Visas & Permits

Visas & Work Permits

Entry is subject to regulations from country of origin. Western passport holders can enter visa-free (for a maximum period of 180 days), obtain a visa on arrival or apply for an E-VISA.

Please contact a local embassy, consulate or representative for more information. Alternatively, there are specialist companies that provide visa and immigration support to the media industry, and may be able to assist.

Film Location Permits

Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach.

Customs

For productions looking to bring in film equipment, Armenia is not an ATA carnet country.

Crews looking to bring in their own equipment will need advance customs clearance, which can be tricky and very expensive. Alternatively, this can be done through either a local production service company or customs broker.

When to Film

When to Film

Armenia has a continental climate.

Winter (December to March) can be bitterly cold and snow-covered, especially at higher altitudes. Spring (April to May) is mild with wildflowers in full bloom. Summer (June to September) is hot, dry and sunny. Autumn (October to November) brings colourful leaves.

Armenia is a predominately Christian country, so those holidays are observed.

Public Holidays

Public holidays may affect timing, availability and costs. See here for public holiday dates in Armenia.

Costs & VAT

Since only a basic filming infrastructure exists, most visiting production choose to bring in their key crew and equipment, which adds to travel costs. Once on the ground, local costs including locations, talent, supporting crew and equipment are relatively inexpensive.

The standard VAT rate in Armenia, at the time of writing, is set at 20%.
