The Employment Rights Act: What Producers Need to Know

The introduction of the Employment Rights Act has already brought significant changes to employment law, with further measures still to come. Find out what these changes mean for your business and productions.

Event
Overview

Following our previous session on the Employment Rights Act which you can watch here, this session will provide an update on the latest developments, with a particular focus on key changes due to come into effect this October.

Described as the 'biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation', the Employment Rights Act has introduced significant changes to employment law.

This session will explore what these reforms mean in practice for film and TV productions, including implications for engaging cast and crew, workplace practices and organisational change, both on set and in the production office.

Wiggin’s employment law specialists will provide a practical overview of the new legal landscape, highlighting the key risks and considerations production companies should be aware of as these changes take effect.

They will cover (among other things):

  • the overhaul of unfair dismissal rights, including how these changes will work and the implications for cast and crew engagements
  • new anti-harassment protections and the much-publicised restrictions on gagging clauses
  • the new reasonableness justification for workplace flexibility requests
  • restructuring and redundancies, including new requirements and the increased liabilities for getting things wrong
  • the new measures designed to strengthen trade union rights

There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

This session is designed for any producers working in the film and TV industry, particularly those involved in staffing and workforce matters.
