Roger James is a qualified lawyer, senior Media Executive and board member with over 25 years of international media deal making experience.
Roger was previously worldwide International General Counsel at Paramount Global from 2007 to 2016. While at Paramount Global he managed a global team of 120 lawyers, regulatory, compliance executives and support staff. He had responsibility across all brands (including MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Spike, Viva, Colors and Channel 5) and all lines of business. He also had P&L responsibility and led the strategic negotiations with all publisher, collection society and record label licensing across International.
In 2014 he led the deal team in the acquisition by Paramount Global of Channel 5 and the subsequent multi-billion dollar outsource in 2015 of its advertising and the renewal of its channel distribution with Sky. He has led numerous M&A and joint venture negotiations across international.
After leaving Paramount Global he was worldwide Head of Business Affairs for Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment in 2016/17, leading various M&A deals and other strategic negotiations.
Between 2017/18 he helped set up WPP/GroupM’s new Addressable TV company Finecast, and worked on key strategic partnerships.
Roger was also Chief Commercial Officer & General Counsel for the PRS between 2019/2020 responsible for over £750m of revenue. He now leads his own Media and Business Affairs consultancy, Roger James Media.
