Pact & BFI letter for overnight stays, and confirmation of critical worker status

Following feedback from members at last week’s Pact Webinar Briefing and Q&A, we have worked with the BFI to create a letter that can be presented to owners of accommodation in England, which confirms that overnight stays for production work is allowed under current Government guidance.

We are in the process of developing separate letters for the same purpose for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and will issue those as soon as they are ready.

We have also created a letter confirming that those working on PSB productions in England are deemed critical workers under the current guidance. This refers to those working on public service productions, which are those commissioned by all BBC channels; ITV1; C4, More 4, Channel 5, STV, S4C and MG Alba.

In Scotland and Wales, who is classed as a critical worker – and whether they are able to send their children to school – is largely down to the local authorities. The Government have said they would expect this to include external companies working on PSB content, but the decision is made at a local level. You should therefore check with your local authority.

We are currently waiting for confirmation from the Northern Ireland Executive as to whether or not production staff working on PSB content are classified as critical workers there.

Our COVID-19 indies briefing documents for all the Nations, which we update regularly, can be found here.
