New chapter for Pact and UK indies as Leeds Office officially opens

This week we celebrated the official opening of our Leeds office and a new chapter in Pact’s history of supporting independent content producers across the UK.

A day of activity in Leeds included the first ever Pact Council meeting to be held outside of London, and a Member Meeting for indies in the region. In the evening, we welcomed over 100 producers and key industry figures, including Channel 4 Director of Programmes Ian Katz and Leeds City Council Chief Executive Tom Riordan, for a special reception. Everything took place in the Round Foundry Media Centre, the site of the new Pact Leeds office and where our Nations and Regions Team, headed by Tris Payne, will be based. Within walking distance of the train station and Channel 4’s new offices, the space offers hot desks and larger meeting facilities for use by Pact members whilst in the city.

Pact CEO, John McVay OBE said “Fully funded by Pact, our new office in Leeds marks a long term investment with the aim of helping all our members across the UK to grow their businesses and succeed in the UK and international markets.” This includes the two new Accelerator programmes which we announced earlier this year.

Also speaking at the event, Ian Katz said “The launch of Pact’s new Nations & Regions office in Leeds is incredibly important. Growing the production sector outside London must be a team effort and for it to be meaningful and sustainable we need to work together with Pact, our production partners and partners in the cities and regions across the UK.”

Kay Mellor, Founder and MD of Leeds-based Rollem Productions, who attended the launch with her daughter, actress and writer Gaynor Faye, said: "It’s vitally important for Pact to have representation outside of London and I’m thrilled that their regional HQ is launching here in Leeds. Once again, it’s a validation that Leeds is a significant city in the world of media. Pact's new HQ will be an essential facility for independent production companies here in the North, and I’m confident that their expertise and new accelerator programmes are exactly what we need to thrive."
