ITV and the BBC have announced that they are preparing to bring BritBox, their streaming service for British content, to the UK. The service launched in the US in 2017 and has over 500,000 subscribers. It is also available in Canada.
The service is set to include old programming and original commissions.
ITV CEO Carolyn McCall commented “This will provide an unrivalled collection of British boxsets and original series in one place... We anticipate that other partners will be added to BritBox, and we will both speak to regulators and the wider industry about our proposals.”
Pact representatives have met with the BBC about Britbox and will be keeping an eye on developments.
The roll out of BritBox in the UK is due to take place in the second half of 2019.
